Happy Cat Day!

In Japan, it’s Cat Day!

That’s because 2 （二）in Japanese is pronounced “ni”,  and the sound that cat’s make is ニャ（“nya”）.  That makes today’s date 2/22 (technically, 二月二十二日 or ２月２２日（“nigatsu nijuuninichi”）, but possibly ににに（“ni ni-ni”） close enough to “nya-nya-nya” to count.

Yes, it’s a stretch, but it’s been Cat Day since 1986.
