Shirakawa-go pre-post

I enjoyed another Yamasa tour today!  The location?  Shirakawa-go!  It's 2-3 hours away by car.

It's an old farming village full of thatch roofed houses called gasshozukuri because the roof looks like hands held in a gesture of prayer (gassho) , like this:

Like most small farming towns, Shirakawa-go has had to adapt to changing times.  The main industry now is tourism.  However, people do still live in the charming old houses.

I'll write a more detailed post with lots of pictures tomorrow.  In the mean time, check out my YouTube channel here, for some very short, completely unedited videos.
